Pitchfork provided a nice summary of Lil B’s highly anticipated “lecture” at NYU that took place today. Lil B was invited by a student-run program board, who probably thought to themselves, “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if Lil B came to NYU to speak?” But let’s not kid ourselves with this, the BasedGod did not drop any serious messages other than “It’s OK to be yourself.” And to be fair, that’s a good thing for college kids to hear. However, my money is on NYU kids simply using the lecture as a talking point about how NYU is that much cooler than other schools.
This is the funniest shit I’ve seen in a minute. Gavin McIness is considered the godfather of hipsters and is one of the founders of Vice Magazine. And apparently he is also an accomplished fisherman, a true master of the (his) bait and tackle.
On my recent trip to NYC, I did a fair bit of shopping, but only bought something from this store in Soho (71 Greene St.) that I stumbled upon called Onassis. Turns out Onassis is a NY- and Tokyo-based brand that designs classic American garments, and at a very reasonable price point to boot. I picked up their spread-collar Loeb polo and a lightweight deconstructed navy blazer (essential). Their website is e-commerce enabled, so you can share in this find without traveling to Soho.
Ralph Lauren is transporting part of his car collection to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris for a special exhibit called “The Art of the Automobile: Masterpieces from the Ralph Lauren Collection”. Unlike many collectors, Lauren actually drives most of his vehicles.
How dope are these?!?! Love the blend of colors with the black up front, and the fade to bright green and yellow. No word on a release yet, but here is the link to the shades on Oakley’s website. They’ll be priced at $140. via HighSnobiety
If you’ve heard of Nardwuar before, then you know this man is quite possibly the best (and weirdest) interviewer in the music game. His research on artists is exhaustive and unequaled, and he’s earned the respect of everyone from Pharell to Snoop to Lady Gaga to Henry Rollins. The list goes on and on. TED invited Nardwuar to speak at TEDxVancouver since he’s from the area. Nardwuar details his beginnings and the DIY, “don’t take no for an answer” work ethic that has gotten him to where he is today. Nardwuar might call himself the Human Serviette, but you gotta put in your work to sit at his table. Super inspiring stuff, check it out.
It took NB long enough to get on the customization train (the Nike ID program is how old now?), but I love how they chose the classic 574 model as the platform for the program. The fact that the shoes will be manufactured at NB’s Norridgewock, Maine facility will undoubtedly be a significant factor in consumers’ choice to order themselves a pair. The custom 574′s are priced at $115, take only a week to ship out (amazing!), and you can custom embroider the heels and select from a wide array of color options. Check it out here.
This is big news if you live in San Francisco and fly a lot. The new Terminal 2 is finally making its debut after a $383 million renovation and facelift. It’ll house gates for American Airlines and Virgin America. T2 doesn’t open for business until next Thursday, April 14, but you can see some pictures on SFO’s Shutterfly account. The architecture and interior design were done by Gensler.
